Some Notes from The FIRST Lesson

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

Its the hardware and software that makes the information systems possible.
Hardware: tangible, visible e.g. monitor, keyboard
Software: Not tangible, not touchable, virtual program, set of instructions that tell a hardware what to do.
Software needed to make a website: frontpage, visual basic, HTML editor

HTML : hypertext markup language - the code/ language in which websites are written

Operating System : Windows 7, Vista, XP- basically enables you to use the computer
- stands between you and the hardware
- translates commands from you to computer language so that it understands

File extension makes it a word document
FILE EXTENTION: test. doc, test.docx, test.txt, test.csv CVS - comma seperated values
The file extenstion has to be in a particular format or else it has to be imported into another computer program.
Test File: (txt) only contains the text you type

MY SCHOOL : COAST PD

Collecting : taking the test - doesnt have to be computersied, can be a survey, interview - by any means possible

Organising: data has to be in the right format - so therefore it has to be formatted - correct sequence etc. E.G. birthdays for school, the year had to be 4 characters

Analysing: give meaning to the data. Statistical analysis, E.G finding the average result in myschool - this would be the simplest tpye of analysis

Storing and Retriveing: it would be stored and would be ablr to access - should be saved to a hard disk, stuff should be retrived at point of command.

Transmitting: getting info to where the user is - through the internet in this case, myschool - shouldnt always have to be

Processing:give meaning to info - conversion of data etc, importing info into a databse.

Displaying: simple as the word said - how is theuser going to use it? Most people would just view myschool on the screen OR save the info (wouldnt be displaying) print it out - display on paper.
